Arab Club Cup Renamed to Honor Morocco's King Mohammed VI

During his visit to King Mohammed VI on Tuesday, April 16, Turki Al Sheikh, president of the Arab Football Union and the Saudi Entertainment Authority, announced a piece of news that delighted more than one person. "The Arab Club Cup will now bear the name of Mohammed VI," he said.

While this news further strengthens the bilateral relations between Morocco and Saudi Arabia, it could also be seen as a gesture of redemption towards the entire Moroccan people. Indeed, we remember that during the bidding campaign for the organization of the 2026 World Cup, Turki Al Sheikh had publicly supported the United 2026 American trio, against that of Morocco. A behavior that had been perceived as a provocation by the Moroccan side and had displeased more than one.

Turki Al Sheikh, who has certainly wanted to erase this act from a very recent past, made a beautiful promise to Mohammed VI. "As President of the Arab Football Union, I am honored that the second edition of the Arab Cup bears a name dear to all Arabs, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, who has honored us with his acceptance... 2020, the final in Rabat," can be read on his page, illustrated by a photo with the Moroccan sovereign.

It should be noted that the visit of the President of the Arab Football Union and the Saudi Entertainment Authority follows that of Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Saudi Arabia, where he was recently entrusted with conveying to King Salman messages from the Moroccan sovereign that address cooperation between the two countries as well as current events on regional and global levels.
