Angers Mosque Transfer to Morocco Sparks Controversy and Legal Scrutiny

The free transfer of the Angers mosque is dividing the community of worshippers. The mayor, concerned, is mobilizing his competent services while also seeking the services of a legal advisor.

The objective of the mayor of Angers, Christophe Béchu, is to find a happy outcome to this concern that is agitating the Muslim community. On September 25, the AMA proceeded to vote on this transfer, to the great double disapproval of the 7 former presidents of the association, as well as the worshippers, specifies Ouest-France.

The president of the AMA, Mohamed Briwa, sees it as a windfall, stressing that Morocco would be ready to unlock the 4.50 million euros necessary for the completion of the work and that the contributions, even over 15 or 20 years, would not manage to mobilize, given the pace at which the faithful are releasing their share.

An opinion not shared by some Muslims in Angers who refuse to see their contributions thus fall into the Moroccan heritage.
Upon examination of the file, the municipal services noted a clause that allows Christophe Béchu to intervene in the case. His authorization is required for the transfer, as president of Alter Cités. He refers the matter to the next municipal council.

It should be noted that this controversial situation is occurring in Angers, even as the President of the Republic presented on Friday, October 2, his plan to fight against religious and community separatism.
