Controversy Erupts Over Proposed Transfer of Angers Mosque to Moroccan Control

Tension is high in Angers around the transfer of the mosque to Morocco. The former presidents of the Association of Muslims of the city, fearing "irreparable damage", are planning a demonstration this Friday, October 23, on the sidelines of the main prayer, that is, a few days before the city council meeting which has included this issue on the agenda.
Through an open letter, the former presidents of the AMA expressed their disagreement on the project to transfer the mosque "in order to avoid irreparable damage to the Muslim community of Angers concerning its mosque in the finishing phase", reports Ouest France. Thus, in addition to the approximately 2.50 million euros collected by the Muslims for the construction of this mosque (one of the flagship projects of the AMA since 1980), one million euros would be enough to complete the work, far from the approximately 4.50 million announced by the current president of the AMA.
Thus, the same source reports, there is no need for the help of the Moroccan state, which is not even a applicant, according to the former presidents.
Can a mayor sell the town hall? Can a bishop sell the cathedral? For us Muslims, the same goes for our mosque, hammer the opponents of this project. Facing them, the supporters are circulating a video to convince Muslims of the importance of getting involved.
Within the Angers elected officials, the pressure is strong, given the current context (the announcement of the French president on separatism and the horrible assassination of the teacher beheaded in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine last Friday). In a private council last Thursday, the mayor, Christophe Bechu, detailed the transfer case, in order to develop a common position to be presented on Monday, during the city council meeting.
