Andalusia Urges Protection of Spanish Fishing Interests in Morocco After EU Court Ruling

The President of the Andalusia Council, Juanma Moreno, asked the Spanish authorities on Wednesday to "protect the interests of the Spanish fishing fleet in Morocco", following the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) to annul the fisheries and agriculture agreements between the EU and Morocco.
The cancellation of this fisheries and agriculture agreement "is very worrying, as a large part of our fishermen carry out their activities in Moroccan fishing areas," said Juanma Moreno during the joint press conference he held with the President of the Murcia region, Fernando Lopez Miras, after a meeting between the two officials.

The head of the Andalusian executive hopes that "the interests of Andalusian fishermen will be taken into account in all the decisions that will be taken by the Spanish government within the European Union." And he added: "I think our fishermen cannot be abandoned. That is why I call on the Spanish authorities to look after, since we do not have an interlocutor, the interests of our fishing fleet in Morocco," Moreno concluded.
