US and Morocco to Revise Free Trade Agreement, Opening Market to Saharan Products

Things are taking shape for the opening of the American market to products from the Moroccan Sahara. Morocco and the United States intend to revise their free trade agreement.

The two historical partners have decided to readapt the free trade agreement that came into force in 2006, reports Hespress. With this revision of the FTA, the American market will be opened to products from the Moroccan Sahara. This agreement has been beneficial for both countries, as the value of their exports has been multiplied by five.

The US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Middle East and North Africa Affairs, David Schenker, also confirmed the good progress of economic cooperation between the two countries during his visit to Dakhla. The relationship between the United States and Morocco "has always been strong and continues to thrive, and our best years together are yet to come," he stressed.

The American Company for International Development Finance, which plans to open a branch in Dakhla, will have a key role to play in enhancing the attractiveness of products from the southern regions of the kingdom to the American market. This American company is willing to unlock $5 billion to finance international development in Morocco and the region.
