Ancient 14th-Century Glass Bottles Unearthed in Tangier’s Medina Restoration

Fifteen Dame Jeanne bottles dating back to the 14th century were discovered during the rehabilitation and enhancement work of the Tangier medina.
These glass bottles were buried on the roof of a grocery store located on the wall surrounding Dar Debbagh on the east side of the city, the APDN press release said.
Belonging to the type of bottles called Dame Jeanne, they would date back to the 14th century, the press release said, specifying that they have been preserved as historical evidence.
This discovery was made as part of the rehabilitation and enhancement program of the Tangier medina by the Agency for the Promotion and Development of the North (APDN). These bottles bear the names of certain Spanish cities, including Barcelona and Vilella, and were used to preserve oils and juices, the press release said.
