Analyst Questions Morocco's Call-Up of Out-of-Form Striker En-Nesyri for CAN Qualifiers

The call-up of Youssef En-Nesyri for the two matches against the Central African Republic, scheduled for October 12 and 15 as part of the third and fourth rounds of the CAN Morocco 2025 qualifiers, is not seen in a good light by the sports analyst Abdelaziz El Belghiti, highlighting the drop in form of the Fenerbahçe striker.

Walid Regragui should not have called up Youssef En-Nesyri for this double confrontation with the Central African Republic, believes Abdelaziz El Belghiti who notes that the Atlas Lion is struggling to find his bearings since his arrival at Fenerbahçe last summer from Seville. In an interview with Madar21, he expressed his fears about Regragui’s choice, which seems to have ignored the drop in form and level of play of En-Nesyri.

"The concept of preparation with Regragui could depend on the confidence he gives to En-Nesyri to bring something new in the two next matches against the Central African Republic," says the sports analyst, however praising the Moroccan coach’s decision to call up new talents for these two matches. However, he questioned the call-up of Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal to the senior team. The sports critic also said he did not understand the call-up of Mohamed Chibi, noting an "inconsistency" in Regragui’s choices.

Former Moroccan international Abdelfattah El Alaouia, for his part, drew attention to the age of goalkeeper Salaheddine Chihab (31 years old), stressing the need to put a young player in this sensitive position to benefit from it over a long period. He also expressed his surprise at the absence of Amine Harit from Regragui’s list, believing that the Olympique de Marseille player has put in good performances. According to him, the version put forward that the player demanded to be a starter would not be verified.
