American Tourist Assaulted by Restaurateur in Marrakech’s Iconic Jamaâ El Fna Square

Unique in the world for a thousand and one reasons, Jamaâ El Fna square is teeming with small businesses that continue to seduce thousands of visitors every day. Some, however, break this magical charm with behaviors that are hardly reminiscent of the emblematic hospitality of the city.
An American community activist has just fallen victim to these unworthy attitudes of the ochre city. Verbally assaulted by a restaurateur in the famous square, Maryam Montague was slapped with a plastic "menu" card.
The individual even dared to throw her cell phone on the ground, after the owner of a hotel in Marrakech tried to take a picture of him. Disgusted, she invited her Facebook acquaintances to no longer go to the restaurants in Jamaâ El Fna square.
Maryam Montague, very active in the associative sector, has always supported rural women through various creative projects. She has notably initiated and trained young girls from the countryside in craft trades.
