Amazigh Activists Celebrate Morocco-Israel Diplomatic Ties as ’Historic’

Amazigh activists believe that the normalization of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel is a "historic victory".
In a statement to Hespress, Mounir Kaji, an Amazigh activist who has always advocated for the normalization of relations between Morocco and Israel, indicated that this normalization could have been effective for years. For him, this is only the end of a secret, as there were already strong relations in terms of trade, security and exchange of visits between the two countries.
According to Kaji, this normalization with Israel, a power in the region in several sectors including technology and industry, is historic and beneficial for Morocco. The Amazigh activist added that this decision could give a new impetus to the tourism sector and agriculture, which will be able to benefit from Israeli expertise. This could revitalize the Moroccan economy hit hard by the health crisis related to the coronavirus.
In the eyes of Abdellah Bouchtart, an Amazigh political actor, this rapprochement with Israel is a historic victory for the Amazigh movement and the culmination of long intellectual and political battles. He explained that even if the Amazigh movement acts outside the institutions with an opposition discourse, it presents an intellectual perception different from the one prevailing in Morocco since the thirties of the last century.
He recalled "the historic position of the Amazigh leader Amghar of the Moroccan Democratic Amazigh Party who broke the psychological and political barrier by visiting Israel in 2008 where he gave a conference". He also returned to the virulent campaign that the late Dahmad was the target of from the supporters of Arab socialist nationalism and Islamists. For Mr. Bouchtart, the decision to restore diplomatic relations with Israel constitutes a victory for the rational and realistic Amazigh discourse for a better future for Morocco.
