Amateur Cyclist’s Daring Finish Line Stunt Thwarted at Tour de France

A surreal scene at the finish line of the 17th stage of the Tour de France on Wednesday in Valence. While everyone was waiting for the outcome of the sprint, a surprise guest tried to make his way across the finish line, causing brief confusion a few minutes before the professional riders arrived. An incident that escaped the television cameras but not the photographers’ eyes.
The man, an amateur cyclist, emerged just moments before the peloton launched the final sprint. Wearing a jersey from the Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale team and a black helmet, he had clearly hoped to slip through the net to seize a moment of glory. His equipment, almost identical to that of the professionals, was not enough to deceive the vigilance of the security personnel.
His run was brutally halted a few meters from the line. A CRS police officer and a member of the organization, particularly reactive, intercepted him without mercy. The intruder was thrown to the ground by the agent, who himself fell during the intervention. The arrest was as quick as it was effective.
Fortunately, there was more fear than harm. The incident had no consequence on the progress of the final sprint, as the riders of the Tour de France did not see the scene. The race was able to conclude normally, to the cheers of the public awaiting their champions.
It was ultimately the green jersey, the Italian Jonathan Milan, who used his power to win the victory in Valence. He prevailed over the Belgians Jordi Meeus, who took second place, and Arnaud De Lie, who finished on the podium in fourth place.
