Ali Maamar: "Belgium is my adoptive mother, but Morocco is my heart’s choice
The 20-year-old Anderlecht defender Ali Maamar is establishing himself in the Brussels club thanks to an iron discipline inherited from his father Saïd. Between a passion for animals and academic rigor, the young Belgian-Moroccan refuses to rush through the stages.
Ali Maamar is preparing to face Club Bruges again, the opponent against whom he launched his professional career in January 2025. Under the direction of David Hubert, the right-back has been able to manage the media pressure thanks to a calm temperament and a lack of stress, according to the confidences of his father to La Dernière Heure.
Managed without an agent by his father Saïd, a former mathematics teacher, and his brother Omar, a future FIFA-certified agent, the player places family loyalty at the center of his career. Multilingual, mastering four languages, he has always reconciled an exemplary schooling with the demands of the Neerpede training center. Ali Maamar, a raw talent between physical rigor and love of horses
After passing through Lierse and Malines before returning to Anderlecht at U15, Maamar forged his character in various Belgian clubs. His father remembers an "artistic" child who drew animals in his room and who, even today, continues to go by bike to feed the horses in Wemmel.
On the field, his physical statistics are impressive, approaching the standards of his idol Achraf Hakimi in terms of high-intensity sprints. This work capacity, inspired by the spirit of Cristiano Ronaldo, allows him to chain runs at over 25 km/h to destabilize opposing defenses.
Crowned world champion with the Moroccan U20s, Ali Maamar has gained maturity following this international exposure in Rabat and Brussels. While he has chosen the Atlas Lions from the heart under the guidance of Mohamed Ouahbi, he retains a deep attachment to Belgium, his "adoptive mother".
Despite the solicitations, the young defender does not consider RSCA as a simple springboard to go abroad. Focused on his daily goals in Brussels, he wants to settle permanently in the club, refusing to rush a departure as long as he has not crossed all the necessary steps.
