The Algerian team will return to Morocco for the CAN

The draw for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) places Algeria in Morocco’s group. This announcement marks the return of an Algerian national team to Moroccan soil for an official competition, shortly after the elimination of the men’s team during the 2025 AFCON.

Algerian football is thus returning to the stadiums of the Kingdom for this tournament scheduled from March 17 to April 3, 2026. This return comes after the men’s team’s journey, which had ended prematurely in the quarter-finals against Nigeria (2-0). This time, it is the players of the women’s national team who will carry the national hopes in this competition expanded to 16 teams.

Algeria will play in Group A alongside Morocco, Senegal, and Kenya. This draw promises a direct confrontation with the Atlas Lionesses, finalists of the two previous editions. Morocco, the host country for the third consecutive time, is aiming for its first title after its failures in the final against South Africa in 2022 and Nigeria in 2025.

The other pools of the competition present high-profile matches. Group B includes Tanzania, Burkina Faso, South Africa, and Côte d’Ivoire. Group C sees Zambia, Nigeria, Egypt, and Malawi face off, while Group D brings together Cameroon, Ghana, Mali, and Cape Verde.
