Algerian singer Cheba Chinou banned from performing in Morocco

A concert by Algerian singer Cheba Chinou scheduled for this weekend in Oujda has been outright canceled by local authorities. The reason? Accusations of hostility towards Morocco and support for the division of the kingdom.
The controversy started on social media. Activists accused the raï singer of making inflammatory remarks, advocating for the division of Morocco and the separation of the Moroccan Sahara. These serious accusations quickly inflamed the web and prompted the authorities to take action.
This is not the first time Cheba Chinou has found herself at the center of such a controversy. Last February, a concert by the singer had already been banned in Marrakech for the same reasons.
