Algerian Official Calls Morocco 'Rogue State' Amid Western Sahara Tensions

Saïd Ayachi, president of the Algerian Committee for Support to the Sahrawi People (CNASPS), reacted to the evacuation of the Polisario leader, Brahim Ghali, to his return to Algeria and the diplomatic crisis between Morocco and Spain. The Algerian official describes Morocco as a "rogue state".

"On the one hand, the Moroccan regime has suffered a resounding setback on two fronts in the Western Sahara affair (the episode of the "president" Ghali and that of illegal immigration) and on the other hand, we have seen Spain reacting in a very determined way on the Western Sahara conflict," explained Saïd Ayachi during his appearance on the radio program L’Invité de la rédaction on Chaîne 3. According to him, Morocco is a "rogue state that threatens to unleash terrorism, illegal immigrants and drugs on European countries".

For the president of the CNASPS, Germany’s intervention on the Sahara during the closed-door Security Council meeting held in April is a setback for the "Moroccan regime (which) has taken umbrage, and has recalled its diplomats from a European country". This, according to him, illustrates "the policy of defiance and threat of the Moroccan regime towards the states of the world in general and those of the European Union in particular".

"From there, the states of the world have seen that this policy of blackmail and defiance practiced by Morocco has no acceptable basis in international relations," said Saïd Ayachi, adding that the settlement of the Sahara conflict will require the organization of a self-determination referendum for the Sahrawi people in accordance with international law.
