Algerian Lawmakers Urge Biden to Reverse Trump’s Western Sahara Decision

Algerian elected officials have written to the current US President Joe Biden to ask him to cancel the decree recognizing the United States’ sovereignty of Morocco over Western Sahara, issued by his predecessor, Donald Trump.
Algeria is trying at all costs to obtain from the Biden administration the cancellation of the American decree signed on December 10 last. "Trump’s decree on Western Sahara violates the principles of the United States on this issue," say the parliamentary groups of the People’s National Assembly (APN) and the Algerian Senate in a correspondence addressed to the current occupant of the White House, the summary of which was published on Facebook.
The Algerian elected officials recall that the Sahara has been "classified by the UN as a non-self-governing territory since 1963" and that "the right of peoples to self-determination is a principle in the history of the United States and a fundamental rule of international law." They welcome the commitment of the new administration to work for more dialogue and consultation in the resolution of conflicts and international problems, and call on it to cancel Trump’s decree.
During his hearing in Congress to confirm his appointment, the head of American diplomacy Antony Blinken had moreover affirmed that the agreements for the normalization of diplomatic relations between Israel and four Arab countries including Morocco will be re-examined. "There are certain commitments that may have been made in the context of the normalization of their relations with Israel by these countries, which I think we should examine carefully," he had replied to a member of Congress.
