Algerian Football Chief Skips Morocco’s Africa Cup of Nations Draw

Morocco is hosting the best teams and federation officials on the continent for the draw of the 35th Africa Cup of Nations on Monday in Rabat. But Walid Sadi, president of the Algerian Football Federation, will be conspicuous by his absence.
Walid Sadi will not make the trip. He will therefore not attend the CAN Morocco 2025 draw ceremony, which will take place at the Mohammed V National Theater in Rabat, at 7:00 p.m. local time (6:00 p.m. GMT/8:00 p.m. Cairo time). The boss of Algerian football will be represented by coach Vladimir Petkovic, as well as the administrator of the Algerian Football Federation. This ceremony will be broadcast live on the CAF official website, but also on the Free to Air platforms of 46 African countries, including those of the 24 participating countries.
The next CAN will be held in Morocco from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026. The competition will bring together 24 teams, divided into six groups. Morocco is automatically placed in pot 1 as the host country, alongside Côte d’Ivoire (defending champion), Senegal (2022 champion), Algeria (2019 champion), Egypt (seven-time winner) and Nigeria (finalist of the last edition). The peculiarity of this edition? It will see a strong participation of Arab teams: Morocco (host country), Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan and the Comoros.
