Algerian TV Blackout as Morocco Dominates U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifier

No Algerian public channel broadcast the return match of the African qualifiers for the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup between Morocco and Algeria, which took place on Friday at the Salem Mabrouki Stadium in Algiers and resulted in a crushing victory (4-0) for the Lionesses of the Atlas.
Contrary to the first leg (4-0), the return leg of the third and penultimate round of the African qualifiers for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup between Morocco and Algeria was not broadcast live by Algerian channels. Fearing a new crushing defeat, the Algerian authorities prohibited the broadcast of the match, even though the cameras of the Algerian channels were already ready for the live broadcast. This decision caused an uproar in Algeria. The Algerian authorities are accused of having violated the right to information and of having shown disrespect towards the Algerian supporters and the women’s teams of the two countries.
This crushing victory over the Algerians allowed the Lionesses of the Atlas to qualify for the final round of the African qualifiers for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, which will take place from October 16 to November 3 in the Dominican Republic. L.M. Jamai and her teammates will face Zambia in June in an attempt to secure the ticket for the World Cup.
