Algerian Authorities Seize Moroccan Soccer Team’s Camera Equipment at Airport

An incident occurred in Algeria after the arrival of the delegation of the Wydad Casablanca sports team for the match against the JS Kabylie team as part of the second round of the CAF Champions League group stage. The security at Algiers Houari Boumediene airport confiscated the equipment of the club’s photographer.
The delegation of the Wydad Casablanca sports team reached Algeria via a flight that transited through Tunisia, as Algeria had closed its airspace to all Moroccan civilian and military aircraft in September 2021. Quickly, it faced difficulties. On Twitter, Moroccan journalist Youssef Belhaissi reported that the Algerian authorities had confiscated the cameras of the AC Wydad journalists upon their arrival at Algiers Houari Boumediene airport.
This has outraged Moroccan Internet users. "Documented complaints should be filed with CAF [Confederation of African Football] to punish Algeria for mixing sports with politics," fumed a Moroccan Internet user.
The match pitting Wydad Casablanca against JS Kabylie is scheduled for this Friday, February 17, 2023 at 8 pm.
