Algerian Artists Spark Controversy at Moroccan Youth Day Concert Amid Diplomatic Tensions

Three popular Algerian artists are announced for the concert scheduled at the Morocco Mall in Casablanca on August 24, on the occasion of the celebration of Youth Day. The announcement of their participation in this evening has sparked a wave of reactions on social networks.
Faudel, Reda Taliani and Kader Japonais are the three Algerian artists who are expected to perform on stage on August 24 in Casablanca. Moroccan Internet users have criticized their participation in this Moroccan evening, in a context of persistent tensions between Rabat and Algiers, denouncing a continuation of the "marginalization of the Moroccan artist in his own country" in favor of foreign artists.
These have called on the organizers to do without artists from countries that do not have positive relations with Morocco, and to promote Moroccan artists. They recalled the calls for boycotts that led to the cancellation of concerts by Algerian artists such as Amine Babylone, Cheb Bilal and Warda Charlomanti, in reaction to the "hostile acts" taken by the Algerian authorities towards Morocco in recent times.
"I have always advocated the need to limit the invitation of Algerian artists repeatedly, or even to boycott them completely. Morocco is a hospitable country, and this is a known trait, but we must also brandish the slogan of reciprocity and give priority to our local voices," said the Moroccan producer and artistic director Moufid Sebbai, in a statement to Hespress.
