Algeria Suspends Friendship Treaty with Spain Over Western Sahara Dispute, Polisario Approves

The Polisario Front’s delegate in Spain, Abdullah Arabi, welcomed Algeria’s suspension of the 2002 friendship and cooperation treaty with Spain. Another decision by Algeria aimed at "punishing" Spain after its change of position on the Sahara.
Abdullah Arabi believes that nearly three months after this historic turnaround by Spain on the Sahara, President Pedro Sanchez has still not provided "convincing explanations" on this subject. For this reason, he welcomed Algeria’s decision to suspend the friendship and cooperation treaty with Spain, recalling that the country had already recalled its ambassador to Madrid after learning that Spain was supporting Morocco’s autonomy plan.

In an interview with Europa Press, the Polisario Front’s delegate in Spain says he does not "see in exchange for what" Spain has made this change in March. According to him, this decision, which "violates international law", has rather put an end to the "permanent pressure" of Morocco on Spain, regretting that the latter did not inform Algeria before making such a decision.
"Spain must understand that North Africa is not composed only of Morocco," added Arabi, accusing Sanchez of supporting the country that "occupies" the Sahara at the risk of preventing any solution to the conflict, even within the framework of the United Nations.
