Algeria Seeks World Cup Redemption in Historic Casablanca Clash Against Guinea

The plane carrying the Algerian football team delegation landed on Sunday morning on the tarmac of Mohammed V International Airport in the city of Casablanca. The Fennecs will face Guinea on Monday as part of the African qualifications for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled from June 11 to July 19, 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Algerian players are in Morocco. A first since September 7, 2021, when they had faced Burkina Faso at the Grand Stade de Marrakech, as part of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers (-1-1). On Sunday, they arrived on a Tunisian plane, on a direct flight to Morocco. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), represented by Secretary General Tarik Najim, gave a warm welcome to the Algerian delegation, showing the importance of separating politics from sport. The Algerian football team will cross crampons with the Guinean team on Monday at the Mohammed V Complex in Casablanca for the eighth round of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

The Algerian selection is staying at the Four Seasons Casablanca hotel. The luxurious establishment located on the Aïn Diab corniche offers all the conditions of comfort and concentration, in line with the Algerians’ aspirations to secure the qualifying ticket for the 2026 World Cup.

Due to the absence of a stadium approved by the International Football Federation (FIFA) in Guinea, the Guinean Football Federation has asked Morocco to host its match against Algeria. Morocco has given a favorable response. This decision suits the Algerian football team. The distance between Algeria and Morocco being short, there will be no fatigue factors related to long journeys. There will also be no fatigue factors related to climate changes, the climate being moderate in Casablanca.

In the first leg, the Fennecs had lost to Guinea (1-2) at home, during the third round. In the event of a victory in Morocco in the return match, Algeria, already at the top of Group G, will get closer to direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
