Algeria Pushes Tunisia to Support Western Sahara Independence, Straining Morocco Ties

Algeria, the protector of the Polisario, is determined to turn Tunisia against Morocco so that it aligns itself behind the option of independence for Western Sahara.
The invitation of Polisario leader Brahim Ghali to the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) held on August 27 and 28 in Tunis has caused a diplomatic crisis between Morocco and Tunisia. A crisis that risks lasting, as Algeria is showing its determination to turn Tunis against Rabat.
"Algiers has discreetly proposed to Tunis the idea of organizing an international forum on oppressed peoples in the world, in order to officially include a large Polisario delegation," reports Maghreb-intelligence, adding that "Algerian diplomacy is exerting strong lobbying on Tunisia to achieve the organization of this forum by the end of 2022."
The forum will also be dedicated to the Palestinian cause. In order to succeed in its organization, Algeria has proposed significant financial support to Tunisia, it is said.
