Morocco-Tunisia Diplomatic Tensions Persist Despite Ministers’ Meeting

Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, and his Tunisian counterpart Othman Jerandi met on Tuesday in Cairo on the sidelines of the Arab League ministerial meeting. Is this the beginning of the thaw in the diplomatic crisis between the two countries?
The meeting between the Moroccan foreign minister and his Tunisian counterpart did not lead to a thaw in the diplomatic crisis between the two countries. According to a high-level Moroccan source, there was a simple participation of the two ministers in a meeting during which they disagreed on a point on the agenda and a formulation, before reaching an agreement, reports Médias24. This has nothing to do with a possible resolution of the diplomatic crisis between Tunisia and Morocco.
The invitation of Polisario Front leader Brahim Ghali to the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) held on August 27 and 28 in Tunis is at the origin of this diplomatic crisis. Morocco had recalled its ambassador to Tunisia. The latter did the same. For the kingdom, the Sahara issue is non-negotiable.
