Algeria Extends Border Closure Indefinitely Amid COVID-19 Surge

Algeria has closed its land, sea and air borders until the end of the coronavirus pandemic. This is the decision taken by the Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on Sunday, June 28.
The Head of State chaired a Council of Ministers meeting on Sunday, during which he ordered the "maintenance of the closure of land, sea and air borders until God frees us from this scourge," according to a statement published by APS.
Since March 19, Algeria’s borders have been closed. However, Moroccans were traveling to the neighbor by air. This time, this will no longer be possible. They will have to wait for the reopening of the borders.
This decision is explained by the resurgence of covid-19 cases in the country. Algeria remains the Maghreb country most affected by the coronavirus. Unlike Morocco and Tunisia, the country has not yet brought its epidemiological situation under control.
It should be recalled that the land borders between the two countries have been closed since 1994, but air links between Morocco and Algeria have remained operational and without an entry visa.
