Algeria Launches Social Media Disinformation Campaign Against Morocco, Report Says

Algeria is conducting a vast disinformation campaign on social media targeting Morocco. The Sahara issue remains one of the points of friction between the two neighboring countries.

Algeria resorts to disinformation in an attempt to tarnish Morocco’s image, but also to destabilize the kingdom. North Korean specialists have trained Algerian army officers in the electronic field, reports the daily Assabah, adding that these electronic flies have the mission of attacking Morocco on social media through false publications against the Moroccan people, its officials, its symbols, its history and its constitutional institutions. They are suspected of having used pseudonyms, opened fictitious accounts in all countries of the world claiming that their content expresses the opinions of their people against Morocco. In order to enable them to carry out their mission, a publication in the form of a guide has been distributed to them.

These electronic flies also attack Arab channels by tarnishing Morocco’s image and altering the truth in the religious, political, socio-economic and sports fields. As an illustration, a video showing the daily ordeal of Algerians queuing for a milk bag. They made the public believe that these images were shot in Morocco. They are also said to be behind false reports attributed to CAF, FIFA, the League of Arab States, the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the Non-Aligned Movement, the African Union, the UN, the Security Council and other international forums. Their work consists of distorting the statements of foreign ministers, publishing videos of old war footage presenting them as fictitious bombings of Polisario militias and claiming that there are liberated territories.
