Algeria Cuts Off Gas Pipeline to Europe Through Morocco Amid Diplomatic Tensions

It’s official. Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has enacted the decision made in August to terminate the contract for the Morocco-Europe Gas Pipeline with Morocco.
This decision came at a time when Algiers was breaking off diplomatic relations with Rabat. After 25 years of execution, this contract, which expired on October 31, has been terminated, a victim of political tensions between the two countries.
According to a statement from the Algerian presidency, Abdelmadjid Tebboune has ordered the public group Sonatrach not to renew the gas pipeline contract passing through Morocco, "in view of the hostile practices of the kingdom".
This decision was taken, after consultation with the Prime Minister and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Energy, "in view of the hostile practices of the kingdom that undermine national unity," the statement added.
