Algeria Condemns US Recognition of Morocco’s Claim to Western Sahara

The Western Sahara conflict "is a decolonization issue that can only be resolved through the application of international law and the African Union" on the matter. This is what a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicates following the United States’ decision to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
Algeria says it is committed to the "authentic exercise by the Sahrawi people of their inalienable right to self-determination and independence, in accordance with the provisions of Resolution 1514 (XV) on the granting of independence to colonial countries and peoples, the 60th anniversary of which the international community is celebrating this year," the statement said.
This proclamation of December 4, announced on the 10th, continues the same declaration, is "without legal effect" and "could undermine the de-escalation efforts deployed on all sides to pave the way for the launch of a genuine political process and convince the two parties to the conflict, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Polisario Front, of the need to engage, without conditions, on the path of dialogue, under the auspices of the United Nations, supported by the African Union".
For Algeria, the "international legality and not the logic of war and dubious markets" must prevail.
