Algeria Boycotts Lawyers’ World Cup in Morocco Over Israeli Team’s Participation

Algeria has refused to participate in the next edition of the Lawyers’ World Cup, scheduled for this month in Morocco. Reason given: the kingdom’s invitation to the Israeli team.
In a statement relayed by local media, the Algerian team of lawyers who were supposed to travel to Morocco to play in the Mundiavocat football tournament, has decided at the last minute to boycott and denounce the games.
The Algerian Bar Association stated that this decision comes "after officially ensuring the participation of teams from the Zionist entity in this competition", adding that this competition of bar associations and law firms will be held "in an Arab country" and that it should supposedly not invite an Israeli team.
The Algerian lawyers also felt that competing with Israeli teams "would be contradictory to the principles of the Algerian government and people" and that they are "in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their just cause".
According to the same text, the invitation of "Zionist teams" in this tournament can be considered as a step towards normalization with "the Zionist entity".
