Algeria Bars Moroccan Journalists from Covering Mediterranean Games, Escalating Tensions

The Algerian authorities have turned back a team of Moroccan journalists sent to Algeria to provide media coverage of the 9th edition of the Mediterranean Games held in Oran from June 25 to July 06, 2022.
Another unfortunate event that complicates the tense relations between Algiers and Rabat. Moroccan journalists were unable to access Oran, the city hosting the 9th edition of the Mediterranean Games. The Algerian authorities blocked them at Ahmed Ben Bella airport, where they even spent the night.
According to these authorities, the Moroccan journalists did not have the special authorization issued by the organizers. The Moroccan Consulate is working to find a favorable solution to this situation.
These journalists blocked at the airport are paying the price of the tension between the two countries, which has moreover been exacerbated by Spain’s change of position on the Moroccanness of the Sahara.
