Algeria’s Amoura Downplays Home Team’s Chances, Names Morocco as CAN 2024 Favorite

Algerian international Mohamed Amoura recently shared his analysis on the favorites for the next Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) starting this Saturday, January 13 in Côte d’Ivoire.
In an interview with Sofoot, Amoura disputed the idea that Algeria is among the main contenders for the title, describing such a claim as a "lie". "We have a team in full renewal, with new players who are gradually integrating," he explained, emphasizing the transition phase the Algerian team is currently going through.
"To say that we are favorites would be a lie. We have a team in full renewal, with new players who are gradually integrating the group. But it’s sure that we are expected, because of our status. And then we learned the lesson of the last CAN, both in terms of physical preparation and mental. We arrive with the hunger," he said.
For the Algerian player, Morocco, Egypt, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire are the four teams most likely to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.
The Moroccan team will start its campaign in Group F with a match against Tanzania on January 17, then face the Democratic Republic of Congo on January 21, and finally Zambia on January 24.
