Algeria Aims to Boost Tourism Sector, Diversify Economy Beyond Oil

Algeria intends to develop the tourism sector in order to get out of oil dependence. Will it be the future competitor of Morocco, whose model is seducing?
Diversifying its sources of foreign exchange earnings, particularly through the development of the tourism sector, is one of the solutions found by Algeria, whose economy is being severely affected by its dependence on oil revenues. To this end, the Algerian government wants to facilitate the granting of visas.
"Regarding tourism and in order to build a tourism industry, the government is committed to implementing an Algeria destination plan by supporting the work of travel and tourism agencies in particular by facilitating visa procedures for foreign tourists," announced on Monday Prime Minister Aïmene Benabderrahmane, during the presentation of the action plan of his government before the People’s National Assembly.
He also intends to modernize domestic tourism, through the promotion of tourist excellence poles that meet international standards, particularly those with a cultural and religious character in the south of the country.
