Algeciras Port Unveils "Hercules Project" to Boost Collaboration with Tanger Med

The President of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA), Gerardo Landaluce, presented the "Hercules Project", which aims to strengthen the links with the port of Tanger Med in 2021 and 2022.
The "Hercules project" has seven components. The first concerns the joint implementation of a goods traceability system between the ports of Algeciras and Tanger Med, says Landaluce, who adds that the second aims to strengthen the infrastructure of the port of Algeciras with the development of a 650 m quay and land space for mooring ships and a 45-hectare esplanade to serve road traffic.
The third component will allow the construction of the second terminal capable of accommodating 542 trucks and semi-trailers. It will be operational as early as the summer of 2022, assures Landaluce, before recalling the objective of the fourth component which is to revitalize the border control post whose role is essential in the Spain-EU-Morocco trade relations.
The strengthening of qualified personnel and the digitization of the control post files constitute the objectives of components 5 and 6 of the "Hercules project", whose seventh and final component provides for the launch of a Algeciras-Madrid-Zaragoza rail highway.
