Algeciras Port Strike Averted: Marhaba Operation Saved for Moroccan Travelers

The employees of the port of Algeciras who were planning to go on strike from July 20th onwards, have reached an agreement with the port authorities and have cancelled their movement. Good news for Moroccans living in Europe who transit through this port to reach Morocco in the summer, as part of the Marhaba Operation.
The negotiations between the officials of the port authority of the Bay of Algeciras and the unions have been tense. The unions remained firm on their position, rejecting any proposal for minimum service. The two parties continued the negotiations, which ultimately led to an agreement that helped to resolve the situation.
The cancellation of this strike has made it possible to avoid an interruption of the pilotage services in the midst of the Marhaba Operation, when the port of Algeciras is in high demand. For years, the Andalusian port has been the preferred transit port for Moroccans living in Europe who go to Morocco to spend their summer holidays. The Marhaba Operation takes place every year from June 15th to September 15th.
