Algeciras Port Handles Majority of Moroccan Diaspora Summer Return

As of Sunday, July 9, a total of 419,500 Moroccans living abroad and more than 101,000 vehicles have transited through the Spanish ports as part of the Marhaba 2023 Operation.
Since the start of the Transit Operation on June 15, 1,876 boat rotations have been carried out as of July 9 in the ports of Algeciras, Alicante, Almeria, Malaga, Motril, Tarifa and Valencia, allowing 419,500 Moroccans from Europe and more than 101,000 vehicles to return to Morocco. The port of Algeciras (Cadiz) records the highest passenger and vehicle traffic with 1,322 boat rotations, or 70% of the total, 236,000 passengers (56%) and more than 64,000 vehicles (63%).
During a visit to this last port, the Spanish Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, accompanied by the sub-delegate of the government in Cadiz, José Pacheco and the president of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras, Gerardo Landaluce, was able to observe the effectiveness of the deployment of the 19,441 national police and Civil Guard agents who guarantee the safety of people and property during the Operation. The official also exchanged with the Consul General of Morocco in Algeciras, Mohamed Rafaoui, and the representative of the Mohammed V Foundation.
The Marhaba Operation started on June 15 and will end on September 15. It aims to facilitate the transit of Moroccans living in Europe who are traveling to Morocco to spend their summer vacation.
