Algeciras Port Chief Optimistic for Return of Moroccan Diaspora Transit Operation

The President of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA), Gerardo Landaluce, hopes that the Marhaba Operation will take place this year, despite the ongoing health crisis.
For Landaluce, the Marhaba Operation could be reinstated this year, but with a different organization than in previous years. "More limited circuits will surely be established with the requirement of the vaccination passport," Gerardo Landaluce said on Monday on the Acento Andaluz program on 7 Televisión Andalucía.
"We hope that in the summer, passenger traffic will resume its normal course. Freight traffic, on the other hand, has remained operational despite the closure of the Moroccan borders for a year now," explained the APBA president, adding that "the Marhaba Operation has a considerable positive impact on the lives of many people and businesses."
The port authority president also recalled the good collaboration that has always existed between his institution and the port of Tangier Med, as part of the implementation of this operation. "There are many double-boat stopovers and we work in perfect symbiosis with Tangier Med," says Landaluce, who specifies that Morocco is Andalusia’s leading commercial customer.
