Algeciras Mayor Urges Reopening of Spanish-Moroccan Border Amid Travel Uncertainty

The mayor of Algeciras (Cádiz), José Ignacio Landaluce, announced that he will meet with Arancha González Laya, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, on various issues "of great interest to the city and the region", such as those related to the reopening of borders with Morocco and Brexit.
In a note, Landaluce stressed the "uncertainty" surrounding the opening of the Moroccan borders, a situation that affects thousands of Algeciras citizens and Moroccans in transit who wish to cross the strait to spend their summer vacation in their country, and which has also prevented the holding of the Marhaba operation this year.
"The Spanish government is responsible for strengthening all the necessary mechanisms to guarantee the health safety of Spaniards and citizens of other countries at the borders," he added.
