Algeciras Closes Free Parking Lot Used by Moroccan Travelers Ahead of Potential Border Reopening

As of Sunday, July 5 at 6:00 a.m., the free parking lot of Llano Amarillo (Algeciras), usually used by Moroccans from different European countries, will be closed.
The information is announced by the president of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA), Gerardo Landaluce, and the first deputy mayor and delegate for citizen security, Jacinto Muñoz Madrid, reports El Faro de Ceuta.
From next week, APBA agents, in anticipation of a possible reopening of the borders by Morocco, will begin to develop the various plots of the area to serve as a transit and departure point. The objective is to avoid gatherings at the entrances to the city of Algeciras and on the roads in the region during the days when the flow will be important. Because, despite the cancellation of the Marhaba Operation by Morocco, many Moroccans residing in European countries will not fail to cross the Strait.
It should be noted that European borders have been opened for passenger transit by land while those of Morocco remain closed until further notice. According to unofficial sources, they should be opened in the course of July. Many Moroccans stranded in Spain are waiting for the opening of these borders to return home.
