Ajax Wins Legal Battle: Ex-Player Labyad Ordered to Pay €50,000 in Injury Dispute

Former Ajax player Zakaria Labyad was forced to repay his former club nearly 50,000 euros. He had asked the KNVB (Royal Dutch Football Federation) arbitration committee to have the club in Amsterdam pay the costs related to his knee injury, but his request was rejected.
During an Ajax training session in April 2022, Labyad suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament in his right knee. The Moroccan international considers the club responsible as an employer for the damages suffered during the performance of his work. He requested a total of 80,000 euros for medical expenses and an amount corresponding to his lost salary during his period of incapacity to work within the club. However, the arbitration committee of the Dutch federation decided that all legal costs should be borne by Labyad and that he should also repay 50,000 euros in surgery costs, initially deducted from his contract termination indemnity, according to AD.
