Airbus Unveils A220 in Morocco, Showcasing Local Manufacturing and Eco-Friendly Design

The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus unveiled its new single-aisle aircraft model, the A220, on Thursday in Casablanca, which is less polluting and has hundreds of parts produced in Morocco.
It was during a meeting with the entire Moroccan aerospace ecosystem that the aircraft manufacturer presented its new aircraft. The A220 contains several hundred parts produced in Morocco, including the fuselage components, the front and rear sections of the aircraft, according to Airbus marketing manager Claude Debeauquenn.
The latest generation aircraft will reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by 25%. With 20% more overhead storage space per passenger, the widest seats and the largest windows in its class, the A220 offers unparalleled comfort to travelers. These features meet the requirements of airlines, it is affirmed.
Speaking on the occasion, Mikail Houari, President of Airbus Africa and the Middle East, stated that "currently, with more than 100 suppliers established in Morocco, Airbus generates 10,000 jobs and more than one billion euros in annual activity. We are fortunate to be able to count on very reliable Moroccan partners, like those present with us today." Airbus has built an unparalleled industrial network in the country.
According to the Airbus Global Market Forecast 2022 (GMF 2022), 1,230 aircraft will be ordered in Africa by 2040. Moreover, the need for aeronautical maintenance on the continent, an area in which Morocco is among the 3 most advanced countries in Africa, will be multiplied, requiring the recruitment of more than 16,000 technicians in the next 20 years.
