Airborne Asylum: Migrant's Daring Paraglider Crossing Sparks Border Concerns

A young Sub-Saharan in his twenties successfully reached the city of Ceuta by paraglider from Morocco on Friday. This is an unprecedented feat and gives wings to other migrants.

This is the first migrant to have succeeded in entering Ceuta by paraglider. In Melilla, two isolated cases have been recorded. "We do not think that many will try their luck," says an authorized source of the Civil Guard to El Faro de Ceuta. Paragliding is a risky and expensive way to immigrate illegally. As soon as he arrived in the Sidi Ibrahim area, the young man abandoned his pink paraglider and fled. The Civil Guard searched the area without success.

The Sub-Saharan had not the slightest scratch, which proves that he knew perfectly how to cross the border with this means. At the migrant reception center in Ceuta (CETI), most of the Sub-Saharan migrants who arrived in the autonomous city climbed the fence with homemade hooks. Others, mostly Moroccans and Algerians, arrived by swimming.
