Air Traffic Controller Strike Threatens Major Disruptions at Moroccan Airports in August

The situation looks difficult for the Moroccan sky. Air traffic at some airports in the Kingdom is likely to be disrupted, due to a strike by air traffic controllers, scheduled to start on August 3.
According to a statement from the National Unified Bureau of Air Traffic Controllers affiliated with the CDT, the sector will undergo restrictions on the number of air traffic movements throughout the Casablanca FIR/UIR (flight information region) under several modalities. These restrictions will continue for 15 days from August 3 at 2 p.m. local time.
Thus, the union has granted during the period a single traffic every thirty minutes (30 min) per FIR/UIR Casablanca entry point, at all flight levels, noting that the Casablanca and Agadir CCRs are concerned, the note cited by Hespress.
In addition, the union plans as other modalities, one hour between two departures from the airports of Marrakech GMMX and Agadir GMAD, in addition to one hour between two departures in the following control sectors: (Casablanca: GMMN+GMMD / East sector: Oujda GMFO + Fès GMFF + Nador GMMW + Al Hoceima GMTA + Bouarfa GMFB + Er-Rachidia GMFK).
However, the document specifies, several flights are spared from these measures, in particular state flights, medical flights, emergency flights and national military flights. Air traffic controllers have not communicated the reasons for this social movement.
