Air traffic continues between Morocco and France despite the earthquake

The powerful earthquake that hit Morocco in the night from Friday to Saturday and killed nearly 2,400 people according to a new provisional report published by the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior on Monday morning had no impact on air traffic. Air France, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and other airlines are operating their flights between France and the kingdom normally.

In a press release relayed by Air Journal, Air France announced that all its flights to and from all its destinations in Morocco - Marrakech, Casablanca and Rabat - are being operated normally from Paris-CDG, and that the Moroccan airport infrastructure has not been affected by the earthquake that occurred in the night of September 8 to 9, 77 kilometers southwest of the ochre city, Morocco’s main tourist destination. By implementing commercial measures, the French company allows "customers holding a reservation for a trip to or from Morocco in the coming days to modify or postpone their trip free of charge," the same source specifies, adding that Air France intends to operate additional flights or use larger capacity aircraft to strengthen its links between France and Morocco in the coming days.

Airlines such as Royal Air Maroc (RAM), Transavia, TUI Air Belgium and Vueling are also operating their flights to Marrakech normally from Paris-Orly. Similarly, RAM and Easyjet continue to operate flights to the ochre city from Paris-CDG. As for the other connections from the French provincial cities (Bordeaux, Lyon, Nantes, Marseille, Toulouse, etc.), they are also being operated according to the scheduled flight programs.

For its part, the Union of Travel Companies (Seto), which brings together the main French tour operators, is asking travel agencies to show "commercial flexibility" for customers no longer wishing to go to Morocco. "If it is possible to offer postponements and/or credits, customers are entitled to refuse them," it recalls. In Marrakech, "after consulting all the operators programming the destination, all the hotel and tourist infrastructures would be operational; air traffic at Marrakech airport has resumed normally," the Seto said in a press release. However, excursion arrangements may, it warns, be made depending on the particular situations of certain areas.
