Air Arabia Maroc Announces Job Cuts Amid Airline Industry Struggles

The airline Air Arabia Maroc will proceed, in the very near future, to the elimination of several jobs as part of a social plan. It is thus following in the footsteps of Royal Air Maroc (RAM).
The airline plans to eliminate several jobs. In an email, Laïla Mechbal, CEO of Air Arabia Maroc, informed all employees of the low-cost airline that a social plan is about to be formalized, which involves a series of layoffs, reports Le360.
In this correspondence, the manager reminded employees that, like other airlines, Air Arabia Maroc has been severely affected by the health crisis related to the coronavirus, and is now obliged to part ways with some of them. The staff concerned by this wave of layoffs will be contacted in the very near future for one-on-one interviews, the same source specifies.
The airline has not, for the time being, communicated on the number of employees to be laid off. "It will be a small portion of the staff and the company will communicate about it at the appropriate time," it is said.
After the appearance of the coronavirus, the company’s management had decided, in May last year, to reduce the salaries of its pilots by 50% for three months (May, June and July). The pilots concerned were then invited to contact the CNSS to apply for a partial unemployment allowance of 2,000 DH.
