Air Algérie Overtakes Royal Air Maroc as Africa’s Third Largest Airline

The national airline Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is overtaken by Air Algérie in a ranking established by a specialized website.
With a fleet of 56 aircraft and 7.2 million passengers transported in 2023, Air Algérie dethroned Royal Air Maroc and becomes the third largest airline on the continent in terms of number of flights and passengers transported, in a ranking established by the Africa Facts Zone website. The Algerian airline owes this position to its development program. Many new international routes have been launched in recent years, particularly to African and Western capitals.
RAM loses two places and positions itself in fifth place with 5 million passengers, behind Egypt Air (4th with 6.4 million passengers transported in 2023). The Egyptian company has lost two places. Air Peace, the Nigerian company, tops the ranking, dethroning the Ethiopian company Ethiopian Airlines. The latter occupies second place with 13.8 million. South African Airlines (4.6 million passengers) and Tunisair (2.4 million passengers) are respectively 6th and 7th.
With $1.1 billion in revenue, RAM occupied the 133rd place in the latest ranking of the 500 companies on the continent established by Jeune Afrique, far ahead of Air Algérie (343rd place with a turnover of $394 million). Ethiopian Airlines was the 24th company on the continent with $6.1 billion in revenue. As for Egypt Air, it was in 97th place with $1.7 billion in revenue.
