Agadir Tourism Officials Refute Rumors of Hotel Bankruptcies Amid Pandemic Challenges

The Regional Tourism Council (CRT) reacted to the information circulating on social networks in recent days, announcing the bankruptcy of about ten hotels in Agadir. According to the CRT, these would be false allegations spread by people who have no notion of the reality of the sector.
It is in a press release that the CRT of Agadir Souss Massa denied the rumors about the closure or even the sale of certain hotel units based in Agadir. The CRT believes that "the objective, through these rumors, is to sow panic and despair in a vital sector for the region’s economy".
However, the CRT of Agadir acknowledges that the covid-19 pandemic has had unfortunate consequences, in connection with the situation facing the tourism industry. It also noted that the pandemic has further created problems for "operators who were experiencing difficult situations".
In reality, the rumors coincide with the announcement of the closure of the Sofitel Royal Bay Agadir hotel, operated by the Risma company. The latter issued a press release, stating that the lease agreement binding it to the ABS Holding company, owner of the hotel, expires on June 30 next, and that the decision was made by mutual agreement between the two parties. The press release explains that "the hotel in question is dilapidated and requires a major renovation worthy of a 5-star establishment". This has nothing to do with "the current situation", explains Risma, which recalls that it is "still the owner of the Sofitel Agadir Thalassa Sea & Spa which, for its part, remains open and continues its activities".
