Agadir Launches $12 Million Hotel Renovation Program to Boost Tourism Recovery

The Souss-Massa Tourist Development Company (SDR) launched, at the end of last week, a call for expressions of interest (AMI) for the rehabilitation of hotel establishments in the Souss-Massa region and especially the city of Agadir.
Through the launch of this AMI, the SDR Souss-Massa intends to give a boost to the players in the tourism sector, hard hit by the covid-19 crisis. The realization of this operation will cost 120 million DH and will be spread over three years.
Companies and individuals or legal entities under Moroccan law, at the national level, applying for this program, will benefit from a 30% subsidy of the total cost of renovating the establishment estimated at 10 million DH, and technical support.
To be eligible for this program, the applicant must meet the conditions set out in the AMI, namely: provide proof of at least 5 years of continuous or discontinuous operation, propose an integrated strengthening plan for the hotel establishment with a commitment to execute it within a maximum of 3 years, be up to date with the tax authorities and the CNSS, and never have been the subject of a recovery or judicial liquidation procedure. A procedures manual, developed by the SDR, provides more details on the procedure to be followed to benefit from this subsidy.
The funds will be disbursed as the work progresses: 20% when the work has been executed at 20%, 30% when it is at 50% of physical realization, 25% when it is at a 75% execution level and 25% at the end of the work.
The work concerns the renovation of 10,000 beds, of which 4,985 belong to hotels without arrears, 316 to hotel establishments with arrears, 1,691 beds to hotel establishments in receivership, 745 from hotels in liquidation, 958 from closed hotels.
Note that the program is carried out within the framework of an agreement signed between the ministry, the wilaya of the Souss-Massa region, the Souss-Massa Regional Council, the municipality of Agadir, the Agadir Hotel Industry Association (AIHA) and the SDR Souss-Massa.
