Agadir Launches $10 Million Hotel Renovation Grant Program to Boost Tourism

A second call for applications has been launched for the benefit of the owners and managers of hotel establishments in Agadir. The final deadline to benefit from the grant dedicated to the renovation and upgrading of their establishments is set for December 31, 2020.
This program launched by the Souss-Massa Tourist Development Company (SDR) subsidizes up to 30% of the total cost of renovating the establishment, capped at 10 million dirhams. It also provides personalized technical support to these hotel establishments. According to Aujourd’hui le Maroc, the selection criteria and procedures for candidates are included in the procedures manual designed by the SDR.
This grant is accessible to companies and individuals or legal entities under Moroccan law presenting a renovation program for a classified tourist accommodation establishment in continuous or discontinuous operation for at least 5 years. They must also have an integrated upgrading program for the hotel establishment to be implemented within a maximum period of 3 years. Another condition for benefiting from this grant is to be in good standing with the tax administration and the CNSS and not to be the subject of a recovery or judicial liquidation procedure.
The grant is initiated under an agreement signed by the ministry, the wilaya of the Souss-Massa region, the Regional Council, the Municipality of Agadir, the Agadir Hotel Industry Association (AIHA) and the Souss-Massa SDR. It takes into account a large number of hotels, with a total capacity of 10,000 beds. Amounting to a total of 120 million dirhams, this operation is financed by the Ministry of Tourism to the tune of 60 million DH, the Souss-Massa region (40 million DH) and the Urban Commune of Agadir (20 million DH).
The companies benefit from the funds as the renovation work progresses, namely the release of 20%, for a work progress of 20% and 30% of the grant at 50% progress; 25% once the progress reaches 75%, and the last stage of 25% of the grant will be released at the end of the project.
