African University Team Unveils Smart, Sustainable Home Design for Solar Decathlon 2019

Al Akhawayn University (AUI) is now ready to present its design of the "smart and autonomous" dwelling. This work, whose realization has been a great success, will be in competition at the "Solar decathlon Africa" 2019, in September, in Benguerir.
The result of a partnership between several ministries, including the Moroccan supervisory ministry and the US Department, as well as its partner, the Moroccan Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies Research (Iresen), this initiative presents itself as an opportunity for students on the African continent. Thanks to this competition of ingenuity, students benefit from practical experience and know-how in the field of sustainable construction, energy efficiency and the integration of renewable energies in buildings.
To realize this type of house, the University states that the Darnasol team, selected for the competition, will use the latest ecological technologies. This team will thus be challenged to design and build a sustainable dwelling using only solar energy and this within a period of eighteen months.
Earlier, in 2019, on January 30 to be precise, in Benguerir, the models of innovative and sustainable construction projects, during the second "Hands on Solar decathlon Africa" workshop, the competing teams had been unveiled. In this regard, the representatives of the 20 teams, from 54 multidisciplinary universities, coming from 20 different countries, had been able to present, before an informed audience, the fruits of their work.
