African Soccer Coaches’ Salaries Reveal Huge Pay Gaps Ahead of Cup of Nations

Of the coaches present at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in Egypt, only Renard and Belmadi are the best paid. In fact, the coach of the Egyptian team is paid 240 times more than the Burundian coach.
Each of the coaches of the 24 teams represented at the CAN is paid according to the standard of living of the country he serves, or his experience in the football world. This justifies the monstrous salary gaps between coaches, from one selection to another.
According to a survey by Jeune Afrique, relayed by Le360, the Mexican coach Javier Aguirre, with his 108,000 euros, earns more than the Seedorf-Kluivert duo, coaches of the Cameroonian team. Hervé Renard, from Morocco, is just behind him with 80,000 euros, from unofficial sources. With 62,300 euros and 55,000 euros respectively, the Algerian and South African coaches close the top 5. The vast majority of coaches not appearing in it are paid in the range of 5,000 to 50,000 euros.
Among the less wealthy earning less than 5,000 euros, we can cite three coaches, namely Ricardo Manetti (Namibia), with around 5,000 euros per month, the Malian Mohamed Saliou Magassouba, with 1,500 euros. The lowest salary is received by the Burundian, Olivier Niyungeko with 450 euros, or 240 times less than the Egyptian coach. It should be noted that the average salary in Burundi is 15 times lower than that of the coach.
In total, in addition to the top 5, there is a coach, absent from CAN 2019, who is the happiest of the lot: Claude Leroy of Togo. He earns more than 38,000 euros, compared to his peers present in Egypt.
