African Nations to Open Consulates in Morocco’s Laâyoune by 2021

The Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, announced on Wednesday the opening of consulates of several African countries in Laâyoune before the end of next year.
The minister made this announcement during a joint press conference organized as part of the inauguration of a general consulate of the Union of the Comoros in Laâyoune, in the presence of his Comorian counterpart, Souef Mohamed El Amine.
The head of Moroccan diplomacy also said that this city will see "intense diplomatic activity" in the coming months. According to him, Laâyoune will host the meetings of the bilateral joint commissions between Morocco and some African countries as well as the Forum between Morocco and the Pacific countries which will bring together the Foreign Ministers of twelve countries.
In addition to Gambia, which is soon to open a consulate in Dakhla, other African countries are also announced. According to the minister, the opening of these consular posts in the southern provinces will strengthen the vocation of this region as the Kingdom’s gateway to the African continent, in line with the vision of King Mohammed VI.
Also, he specified that these consulates will work to strengthen economic and trade exchanges between Morocco and African countries.
